History:
Gold Mermaid is an AR hybrid artwork that bridges the physical and the digital.
A superior being gazes upon a human who cannot see beyond the tip of his own nose. She watches him. She studies him. She reaches out her golden, powerful hand to pull him free from his ordinary life – the one he has been trapped in, like a hamster spinning endlessly on a wheel, never able to step off. From the depths of the ocean, the Mermaid invites him to descend from the wheel. She extends her hand. The next move is his. The decision is his alone.

When the viewer points their device at the artwork using the Artivive app, the painting comes alive. The background deepens to the dark blue of the ocean. The Mermaid calls to the viewer, then turns and swims into the depth of the canvas, passing through the ruins of an ancient submerged city, glancing back every so often as if to say: “Come with me.” A man, desperately in love with her, leaps into the chasm – into the swirling heart of a volcano of fire – to follow her.
At the peak of the epic AI-generated score, the Mermaid transforms into a white eagle of impossible, breathtaking beauty. Powerful and still, she tilts her head back, unleashing a cascade of wild hair – and in that gesture, her human face reappears. The man falls through the flames and melts, reborn as a small metal robot absorbed by the turning earth, which dissolves him and reveals instead a beautiful transformation: the Mermaid has become a radiant girl on a solitary planet, tending her rose like The Little Prince.
